Master the Art of Course Creation with a Professional Course Creation Coach

course creation coach

Have you been thinking about adding another revenue stream to your private practice? If you've been dreaming about reducing your clinical hours and replacing them with some kind of passive income, you've probably given some thought about creating an online course. Likely, you've put it on a back burner because it's such an undertaking.

And to be honest, it can be overwhelming. It requires time, focus, and a process that would push you forward and not let you neglect this project halfway.

After creating my own course Private Pay Pathway, I can safely say that it is a lot of work. But it's also DOABLE, even if you have a full caseload and family responsibilities. But the truth is, it's 50x harder to do it on your own. Before launching my course, I had failed multiple times.

If you want to take it seriously, you need guidance of someone who's done it before, more than once. You need a course creation coach. With this person's guidance and expertise, you can master the art of course creation and turn your ideas into a lucrative online course. A coach will provide you with the necessary tools, strategies, and support to create a course that is engaging, informative, and conversion-optimized. They will help you identify your target audience, develop your course content, and design your course structure.

That's why I picked Amy Porterfield's Digital Course Academy to teach me how to build my own course. And boy, that made my life so much easier. Amy is a course creation veteran so she and her team have thought of everything you would ever need to build a successful course.

What's more, Amy's coaching made it seem possible, saving me countless hours of trial and error. In the end, I have created a course that can educate and impart knowledge to my audience of therapists outside of my one-on-one work. And if that's your goal too, here's how you can do it.

Why course creation is important for therapists

As a therapist, you might wonder how your can help a larger group of people outside your one-on-one work. After all, you're not a coach and ideally you work with clients for the entirety of their healing process. So how does it translate into a course?

Creating a course does not necessarily mean replacing one-on-one therapy, rather expanding your expertise to people who may not want to see a therapist or are not ready for it yet. Think about your course as an "add-on" or an adjacent tool to your work with clients. There is a growing demand for therapists to expand their reach and share their expertise with a wider audience. Creating an online course is an effective way to do just that.

If you want to build a name for yourself and establish yourself as an authority in the mental health industry, a course could help you build your reputation and expand your reach. Your potential clients and your collegues may see you as an established expert when you have a course to back your work.

What's more, a course can add a significant boost to your revenue. Online courses have become increasingly popular in recent years, with the global e-learning market expected to reach $375 billion by 2026. For therapists specifically, it can be a natural way to grow their businesses.

Benefits of working with a professional course creation coach

By this point, you're probably getting excited about your future course but the thought of building it seems daunting. As a therapist, you are probably not a a tech or design expert. What's more, the thought of putting yourself in front of the camera may seem like torture. And you're not alone. I too felt completely out of my comfort zone when I started. But my desire to create something meaningful that helps people on a larger scale outweighed these fears.

But my desire alone wasn't enough. I knew that if I wanted to build a high-quality course, I needed help and found the Digital Course Academy. What drew me to this particular program was the all-inclusive process of creating an online course. Also, it was being taught by a well-known person in the industry with a massive track record.

If you're just starting your search for the right course creating coach, here are the things that I would recommend focusing on:

  • Pick a trusted person with a proven track record of teaching online.

  • Make sure that you have a lifetime access to the online recordings.

  • Look for a coach that offers support for questions that you may have during your creation process.

  • Pick a program that takes your from point A (being a complete newbie) to point Z (a full promotional blueprint)

The right course creation coach can provide you with the necessary tools, resources, and support to ensure that your course is engaging, informative, and conversion-optimized.

But perhaps one of the most significant advantages of working with a course creation coach is the ability to avoid common pitfalls that many first-time course creators face. They can help you navigate the various challenges, from selecting the right course platform to crafting a marketing strategy that effectively reaches your target audience. With this guidance, you can focus on creating a high-quality course that meets the needs of your students, rather than getting bogged down by the technical and logistical aspects of the process.

Now that I've hopefully convinced you that having an online course is a good business decision for your practice, let me tell you what the work actually entails. There's a proven process for creating a successful online course no matter who you choose to work with.

No matter who you choose as your guide, and even if you decide to build your course alone, you can still follow this framework.

1. Identifying your target audience and their needs

It's important to remember that you are not building your course for yourself. Knowing who your ideal target audience for this course is will be your first step for success. Think about your caseload, what type of person would benefit the most from your course? Ask yourself, how common is the problem that your course could offer a solution to.

As a therapist, you likely have a deep understanding of the challenges and struggles faced by your clients, but it's essential to take this a step further and really delve into the specific needs of your potential course participants. Begin by considering the demographics of your ideal students, such as their age, location, profession, and level of expertise. Then, conduct market research to gain a deeper understanding of their specific challenges, learning preferences, and goals. This information will be crucial in shaping the content and structure of your course.

A course creation coach will guide you through this process, but you can do your own preliminary work now. Use the Ideal Client's Profile worksheet to help you pinpoint your ideal audience. You can download it here for free.

2. Creating engaging and effective course content

Once you have a clear understanding of your target audience, the next step is to create engaging and effective course content. This involves developing a curriculum that not only imparts your expertise but also resonates with your students and keeps them engaged throughout the learning process.

A course creation coach can help you break down your knowledge and expertise into easily digestible modules and lessons. They can also provide guidance on the best teaching methodologies and learning activities to incorporate, ensuring that your course is both informative and interactive.

Additionally, a coach can assist you in creating high-quality multimedia content, such as videos, audio recordings, and interactive exercises, to enhance the learning experience. They can also help you to structure your course in a way that makes it easy for students to navigate and progress through the material.

3. Designing a user-friendly course platform

Many of us get bogged down when we need to choose the right tools for our projects. With online courses, the main tool that can help you speed up your course creation is the platform you'll choose for hosting your course.

A well-designed and user-friendly platform can make your life much easier and reduce the overwhelm that comes with learning a new piece of software. After a lot of research, I settled on Podia for hosting my course. The reason I chose this platform is for its simplicity and a large library of training videos.

But Podia is not the only platform you can pick to host your course on. Here are other options that you may want to explore:

  • Kajabi is the ultimate creator platform. Built to sell and market your courses, it's an all-inclusive platform. That said, it's a bit pricey and has a longer learning curve than Podia and others.

  • Teachable is a more affordable option that offers the necessary features for hosting your course.

  • Circle is another platform that you may want to consider if you also want to build communities around your courses. Many creators use Circle to interact with their community members and teach online.

Besides these options, there are many others available to you. If you decide to get help from a coach in building your course, they may have their own recommendations. During my time in the Digital Course Academy program, Amy offered a big library of Kajabi tutorials for those who wanted to use the platform.

A good coach will not only recommend and help your pick the right platform, but will also speed up the learning process with helpful tutorials.

"A coach can assist you in creating high-quality promotional materials, such as course trailers, landing pages, and sales funnels, to help you effectively communicate the value of your course to future students."

4. Marketing and promoting your therapy courses

You may think that building your course will be the bulk of your work. But that's not the case. Promoting your therapy courses will take most of your efforts initially. If you're new to digital marketing, this could be intimidating. After all, there are so many channels to consider: email, social media, SEO, etc.

Where do you even start?

A good course creation coach can help you develop a comprehensive marketing strategy that includes tactics such as content marketing, social media promotion, email campaigns, and strategic partnerships. They can also provide guidance on pricing your course, creating sales pages, and optimizing your course for search engines.

Additionally, a coach can assist you in creating high-quality promotional materials, such as course trailers, landing pages, and sales funnels, to help you effectively communicate the value of your course to future students. By leveraging their expertise, you can ensure that your course reaches the right people and generates the desired level of interest and enrollment.

5. Measuring success and making improvements

Finally, you'll need to measure the success of your course and its promotion. A course creation coach can help you measure the success of your online course and make ongoing improvements to improve the learning experience for your students. A coach can provide guidance on tracking key metrics, such as enrollment rates, completion rates, and student satisfaction, and then use this data to identify areas for improvement.

A coach can also guide you in gathering feedback from your students, either through surveys or one-on-one interviews, to gain valuable insights into their experiences and preferences. This feedback can then be used to make adjustments to your course content, delivery methods, and overall learning experience, ensuring that your offering remains relevant and engaging to your target audience.

By continuously monitoring and improving your course, you can ensure that it remains a valuable and effective resource for your students, ultimately enhancing your reputation as a trusted expert in your field.

still wondering if you can create an online course as a therapist?

Conclusion

Creating an online course can be a transformative experience for therapists, allowing you to extend your reach, establish your expertise, and generate additional revenue for your practice. However, the process of course creation can be complex and overwhelming, especially if you don't have prior experience.

If you fall into the "newbie" category of course creation, a coach can provide you with the necessary tools, resources, and support to identify your target audience, develop engaging and effective course content, design a user-friendly platform, and effectively market and promote your offering.

So, if you're a therapist who is ready to share your knowledge and expertise with a wider audience, consider working with a professional course creation coach. With their guidance and support, you can master the art of course creation and unlock new opportunities for growth and success in your practice.
